pronouns begin to make themselves heard as the end of an assignment and a school year begins to draw closer. the personal is often terribly difficult to separate from the world, and these entries betray a sensibility not particularly interested in teasing the two threads apart, yet. the clock strikes midnight, a chunk of concrete falls off the roof, and the fog makes it impossible to see stars, and yet the only thing which seems so important is the sick feeling that rises, menacing, over and through and behind all of this wonder, the terror which with bright halogen lights it is possible to chase away for a time. is there any success?

rhetorical questions are friendly things, clamoring to be let in; it is thus also with non sequiturs, and perhaps it should be wondered that more of them don't appear everywhere. most people, of course, are strong enough to resist temptation and wheedling. many people would even go so far as to say that questions cannot of themselves speak as though alive, never mind how many tranquilizers or hallucinogens one takes. others, grounded in the world, might check for dilated pupils instead of delivering a warning. perhaps including a question or a leap is like to an Amish quilt-maker's deliberate flaw, that no contest be made with God in the creation of perfect work.

this is the final entry. a procession of people has made its way through here, in bundles of one hundred and thirteen words exactly, not including the dashes, which of course count only as punctuation. is there something to be gained from the removal of the first-person pronoun from a text? perhaps, if there is a similar broadening of perspective. bias and reaction are, however, quite evident in this work, and that may deserve some apology. what does beg pardon, however, is the inadequate way in which people and places have been fixed, as if there somewhere was a very clumsy lepidopterist had a bad hand with the needle and skewered people randomly.
