'Tis the season to be jolly. However, today is World AIDS Day, so it's also a season to remember those we've lost, those who are living with the disease, and those who are doing their best to provide services, comfort, and other things to those living with HIV and AIDS. You know, I really hate this whole "World [Condition] Day" thing, or "National [Condition] Awareness Month." As if for the rest of the year, you can just ignore it? Yeah, that's quality thinking for you. However. If it increases awareness, if it gets people to think, and if needle-exchange programs, condom distributors, charities, and clinics can get money out of it, then I'm for it. And isn't it weird that the city where the National AIDS Memorial Quilt was born no longer has a local chapter? Go to the site. So many panels on the Mall... |
